Two-Steppin’Down the
Independence Trail To
Bayou Bend and the Azalea Trails
Fri, April 17, 2015
Visit the opulent mansion of Miss Ima Hogg, daughter of the first Texas-born Governor, James S. Hogg. Miss Ima Hogg and her brothers, Will and Mike, selected 14 acres of natural woodlands and winding ravines for their home in the newly developed Houston neighborhood of River Oaks. The gardens at Bayou Bend reflect her love of beauty, flowers, and natural woodlands. Miss Hogg created formal gardens that reflect the Country Place era (1880–1920).
While touring the mansion, you will see and learn about Bayou Bend’s rarest and historically most important treasures, as well as unique Texas-made objects. Hear about the Hogg family, and how Ima Hogg transformed her home into a museum to display one of the nation’s best collections of American antiques.
Experience historic Houston neighborhoods featuring Azaleas the name given to the various spectacular flowering shrubs that are in full bloom each spring. These showy flowers flourish in varying shades of pink, purple, white, red, and yellow and are a magnificent sight to behold.
